The MIXXI Story
It Started Around Our Family Dinner Table
MIXXI began around our family dinner table in Auckland.
Like many busy working parents, my wife and I were constantly trying to answer the same question at the end of a long day:
What can we feed the kids that is quick, tasty, and actually good?
Our twin daughters, like so many Kiwi kids, could happily live on pasta. But with our Taiwanese and Chinese heritage, we wanted to share more of the flavours we grew up with — the bold, comforting, slurp-worthy bowls of noodles from Taipei night markets, family kitchens in China, and the little eateries that always seemed to know exactly how food should taste.
We wanted meals that felt like home.But we also needed them to be realistic for real family life.No complicated cooking. No expensive takeaway every week. No spending hours in the kitchen when everyone was already tired and hungry.
We needed something fast, wholesome, and full of flavour.
The Supermarket Aisle Let Us Down
So we started looking.
We searched supermarket shelves for noodles we could happily feed our girls, but most of what we found fell short.
Too many were packed with unrecognisable additives, preservatives, artificial flavours, and fried in oils we didn’t feel good about.
They were convenient, yes. But they didn’t feel like the food we grew up with.
And they definitely didn’t feel like the kind of food we wanted to build family memories around.
The more we looked, the clearer it became:
There had to be a better way.
Rediscovering Traditional Taiwanese Sun Dried Noodles
That better way led us back to something beautifully simple: traditional Taiwanese sun dried noodles.
After months of research, we discovered You Ni Yi Mian, a respected Taiwanese noodle manufacturer known for its craftsmanship and commitment to quality.
Their noodles were exactly what we had been looking for.
Just three simple ingredients:
Wheat flour. Water. Salt.
No frying.
No unnecessary chemicals.
No shortcuts.
The result was a naturally chewy noodle with a clean, authentic taste — the kind of texture and flavour that instantly took us back to the noodle shops, night markets, and family meals we loved.
It was simple food, made properly.
And that made all the difference.
Then Came the Sauce Experiments
Of course, great noodles are only half the story.
So we started experimenting in our own kitchen.
We made sauces from scratch, drawing inspiration from our family recipes, our favourite childhood flavours, and the vibrant spices of our hometowns.
Fragrant garlic-chilli blends.
Rich soy classics.
Aromatic sesame finishes.
Bold, comforting flavours that brought together the best of Taiwanese and Chinese cooking.
Our twin daughters quickly became our official taste testers.
And when the bowls came back empty, with big smiles across their faces, we knew we were onto something.
From Our Kitchen to Other Kiwi Families
At first, MIXXI was simply our family solution.
But then friends started asking about it.
Then other busy Auckland families tried it.
And we kept hearing the same thing:
They loved having a quick meal that didn’t feel like a compromise.
Parents told us they finally had a way to serve something wholesome, flavour-packed, and exciting without the guilt, the hassle, or the takeaway bill.
That was when we realised MIXXI could be more than something we made for our own family.
It could help other families too.

Today, MIXXI proudly collaborates with You Ni Yi Mian to bring authentic Asian flavours to New Zealand tables.
Together, we combine their renowned sun dried noodle craftsmanship with our passion for bold, heritage-inspired sauces and recipes.
We work with their much-loved noodle flavours while also creating our own unique range of sauces — made to bring real Asian flavour into everyday Kiwi kitchens.
The result is simple:
